Cataract Free Villages
In association of R. J. Sankara Eye Hospital, Panvel, we have set up a goal of making every village in the close vicinity a cataract free village.
There is a huge backlog of cataract surgeries in the Raigad district, because of the non-availability of quality eye care within the patient’s financial reach and nearby area. RAIGAD HAS population of 26lac+. Approx. 60% of this population is blind due to untreated cataracts according to NPCBVI.gov.in Cataract is one of the major causes of blindness which is easily treatable. But many patients are deprived of this simple solution for various reasons, one of which is non-affordability. The non-availability of quality services near their vicinity is also one of the reasons for the increase in the backlog of cataract surgeries.
We have a resourceful organization like R Jhunjhunwala Sankara Hospital in Raigad with a similar vision. The hospital successfully performed over 3000 free eye surgeries and examined a total of 18,903 patients in the outpatient department in past one year.
We have a target for making our district raigad a Cataract free district over a period of next 5 years. Where we can operate atleast 10k surgeries in a year.
Rotary is a pool of individuals from affluent society who form an organization to share their resources for the betterment of society. Rotary’s vision on preventive health care aims to prevent blindness by timely diagnosis of cataracts in patients followed by treatment.
We aim to bridge the gap between concentration of advanced healthcare in urban areas and unavailability of equal resources in remote rural areas. We will also join hands with trained ASHA workers for timely diagnosis, routine check-ups and correct treatment planning for the patients in consultation with opthalmologists for patients from these rural areas. We plan to work at the grass root level in making available basic as well as advanced health care facilities for the underprivileged people in these remote areas. We hope to make, Their Vision, our Vision.
